PHILIP EVE  -  Tenor and Singing Teacher

From Lamplight to Limelight in the Canterbury Festival,in October 2007

(with soprano Renée Salewski, and actress Violet Ryder)

Renée Salewski and Philip Eve opened the evening with two solos and two duets by Chausson, of ravishing quality, which beautifully set the theme - requited and unrequited love. The artistry of the singers was masterful, conveying every nuance in the music and the text. Better was to come. After three exquisite Quilter miniatures we encountered Robert Schumann at his most romantic - three delightful and dramatic duets, which surely deserve a wider audience. The songs and duets were given a delightful context by Violet Ryder, taking the part of a woman in love, writing a letter to her beloved and linking the songs by quoting some of the lyrics.
